Bittersweet

Sunday, March 27th, 2011 will always be marked as a bittersweet day. Today we said goodbye to our black, furry friend named Riley that we've had since 2004, who went to a better home & family. Overall, he was a good dog. A dog that Addison grew to love since day 1. (Alivia did as well, although she didn't get as many opportunities).

Addison at 6mo. She LOVED to sit & watch her puppy!!

We told Addison a few days ago that Riley was going to live at a new house. She looked at me at first with question, which was quickly followed by 3 or 4 different emotions crossing her face. After gathering her thoughts, she looked at me (being sure to stick out her lower lip) and said, "But why, mom? I love Riley. I don't want him to go."

 (Addison at 2 years)
"I know sweetie! But Riley will love his new home and he will be well taken care of. We just don't have the time for him that he needs".
"But mommmm....." and she stomps off to her dad.
"Daaadd...Mom says Riley's going. I no want Riley to go. He has to stay...here at my house."

Thus, after church today, the family came to get Riley. It was as I said...a bittersweet day. We will miss our Riley who; was fun to play fetch with, who had a KILLER tail, had so much fun swimming in the lake, ran along side you as we biked or walked, but at the same time - we know he is going to a great family and will have a lot of fun!!
(And believe it or not...daddy got choked up and shed a couple tears....honest!)
